Alabama Power Company and York West End Junior High School formed the first Adopt-A-School partnership in Sumter County on April 29.
“Alabama Power is proud to support educational initiatives in West Alabama through the chamber’s Adopt-A-School program," said Alabama Power Community Relations Specialist Leah Banks. "We feel strongly that programs like this make a huge impact with students and teachers, and we look forward to a partnership with York West End Junior High School."
Despite starting towards the end of the school year, Alabama Power is committed to supporting upcoming activities and programs.
Focused on enriching educational experience, the company will:
- Provide volunteers for school projects, events, and career awareness programs.
- Offer student incentives for academic achievements, citizenship, and attendance.
- Support Duty-Free lunch by providing volunteers.
- Assist the school in applying for Alabama Power scholar grants.
“Alabama Power is a great partner, providing unwavering support to nurture and uplift our schools. Their commitment to education is inspiring,” said Sumter County Schools Superintendent Dr. Marcy Burroughs. “We're grateful for their efforts!”
In addition to York West End Junior High, Alabama Power is also partnered with Davis-Emerson Middle School (Tuscaloosa County Schools) and STARS Academy (Tuscaloosa City Schools).
