Black Belt Workforce Center Opens in Demopolis
December 16, 2019
West AlabamaWorks opened the Black Belt Workforce Center Friday, Dec. 13 in Demopolis. The center will serve as a career development hub for the Black Belt region.
“We knew that we needed to serve some of our most critical areas in Alabama by creating a center in the Black Belt. This is a place for both job hunters and employers to find resources to help them succeed,” said the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Chief Operating Officer and West AlabamaWorks Executive Director Donny Jones.
SAWDC AlabamaWorks, which serves the southwest portion of the state, and Central AlabamaWorks, which serves Montgomery and surrounding counties, have partnered to make this center possible.
The center will be similar to West AlabamaWorks’ successful Brookwood Workforce Center. Established in 2017, the Brookwood Workforce Center provides training for job seekers and employers, job application assistance, resume help and a computer lab. Nearly 17,000 individuals have registered with CareerConnect, the state-of-the-art job application software housed in the center.
Elected officials, dignitaries, industry leaders and community supporters were in attendance to celebrate the opening at a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 13.
The center is located at 1048 Bailey Drive in Demopolis.
