Leadership Tuscaloosa Celebrates Groundbreaking for New Hoops 4 New Heights Project
March 25, 2025
The 2024-2025 Leadership Tuscaloosa class officially broke ground today on their class project, New Hoops 4 New Heights, marking the beginning of construction for a new basketball court and pavilion at the New Heights Community Resource Center (NHCRC). The project aims to provide a dedicated recreational space for local youth and families, fostering community engagement and accessibility to outdoor activities.
Community leaders, project supporters, and members of Leadership Tuscaloosa gathered at the site to celebrate this milestone. The groundbreaking event featured remarks from key stakeholders, including representatives from New Heights Foundation Inc., Leadership Tuscaloosa, and local officials.
"Leadership Tuscaloosa is all about opening eyes to the challenges and opportunities we have within our community as well as cultivating new leaders to step forward in their own unique ways," said Chamber President and CEO Kyle South. "Identifying areas of need and showing the leadership to tackle those needs is why we encourage each class to adopt a project. This class embraced that, and will change lives with the New Heights project."
New Hoops 4 New Heights is a collaborative effort between Leadership Tuscaloosa and New Heights Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing vital resources for Tuscaloosa residents. NHCRC offers essential services in education, mental health, homelessness prevention, youth development, and healthcare.
