Leadership Tuscaloosa Class to Build Basketball Court and Pavilion for New Heights Community Resource Center
February 20, 2025
The 2024-2025 Leadership Tuscaloosa class is excited to announce their class project: New Hoops 4 New Heights - raising funds for the construction of a basketball court and pavilion at the New Heights Community Resource Center (NHCRC). This project aims to create a lasting space where youth and families can gather, play, and grow.
Inspired by a shared passion for fostering community connection and promoting equitable recreational opportunities, this year's Leadership Tuscaloosa class has partnered with the New Heights Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization formed in 2023. The foundation provides essential support services to students, families, and the greater Tuscaloosa community through the NHCRC.
NHCRC is one of the first of its kind in Alabama, offering a one-stop, wrap-around service center in partnership with Tuscaloosa City Schools and local nonprofit agencies. The center focuses on five core areas: education, homelessness and homelessness prevention, youth services, mental health, and healthcare. In collaboration with partner organizations NHCRC offers critical services like mental health and wellness support, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, disability services, food distribution, literacy training, and mentorship programs.
To bring this project to life, Leadership Tuscaloosa is seeking monetary contributions and in-kind donations of materials, including:
- Concrete
- Excavating services
- Metal roofing
- Two basketball goals
- Two garbage cans
- Basketballs
The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on March 25 at 10 a.m. at the New Heights Community Resource Center, marking the beginning of this transformative project.
