West Alabama Workforce and Community Development Center Celebrates Grand Reopening with Ribbon Cutting and Open House

The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama and West Alabama Works celebrated the grand reopening of the newly renovated West Alabama Workforce and Community Development Center on Thursday, September 10, welcoming more than 200 business leaders, community partners and guests to the facility in downtown Tuscaloosa.
The celebration began with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 3:45 p.m., followed by an Open House that gave attendees the opportunity to tour the renovated facility, connect with Chamber and workforce partners and learn more about the resources and services available through the Center.
Located at 2222 9th Street, the West Alabama Workforce and Community Development Center serves as a collaborative hub focused on strengthening the region’s workforce, supporting economic growth and connecting businesses, individuals and community partners with valuable resources and opportunities.
The ceremony highlighted the history, renovation and future of the Center. Elizabeth Winter, Senior Vice President and Wealth Advisor with Regions Bank, reflected on the building’s history as a former Regions Bank location. Andrew Jackson, owner of A.C. Jackson Construction, and Eric Requist of Caldwell Architects shared insight into the renovation process, while GAF Plant Manager Scott Baldwin recognized GAF contribution of a new roof and the continued achievements of West Alabama Works. Federico Kochlowski, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc., spoke about the progress made across West Alabama and the importance of continued collaboration and investment in the region.
“These renovations represent an important investment in the future of workforce and community development in West Alabama,” said Kyle South, President and CEO of The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama. “It was exciting to welcome so many members of our community into the Center and give them the opportunity to experience the improvements firsthand. This facility will allow us to better serve our businesses, workforce partners and community for years to come.”
During the Open House, guests explored the Center’s updated meeting and event spaces and learned more about opportunities to utilize the facility for business meetings, trainings, receptions and other community events.
The renovations were designed to create a more welcoming, functional and collaborative environment for the businesses, organizations and individuals who utilize the Center. The updated facility will further support the work of The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, West Alabama Works and their partners as they continue advancing workforce and community development initiatives throughout the region.
